cancer care pathway standard project, funded by Tervisekassa. Throughout the project, I simplified and translated multiple texts related to the care pathway standard, adapted the standard into a website prototype, and created diagrams of the standard\u2019s pathway mapping project (2023\u20132024), which analysed lung cancer care pathways across three Estonian hospitals (ITK, PERH, and T\u00dcK) and identified key areas for development. Building on these priorities and additional data analysis, Tartu University Hospital developed a fast, seamless, and human-centred lung cancer care pathway \u2014 from a symptomatic patient's entry into the healthcare system to the start of anti-cancer treatment.\u00a0<\/p><p>The care pathway standard aims to address the following issues:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1b930fd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1b930fd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ol><li>\u00a0Lung cancer symptoms were difficult to define clearly.<\/li><li>There were delays at the start of the pathway: 44% of patients with suspected cancer did not reach a cancer centre within 14 days, and for 41% of patients, the diagnosis was not confirmed within 21 days. Furthermore, patients interacted with an average of three different doctors across multiple healthcare institutions. Excessive handoffs between specialists and facilities caused delays in starting treatment, adding unnecessary stress during an already difficult time.<\/li><li>The patients' entry point to the health care system was vague: different diagnostic codes were used for cancer suspicion, or the suspicion diagnosis was left unrecorded entirely.<\/li><li>Communication between healthcare professionals and patients was lacking. Cancer suspicion, diagnosis, and prognosis were not communicated in a patient-centred or clear manner.<\/li><li>Diagnostic and treatment waiting periods were long and confusing, and the system failed to provide patients with the necessary support (covered in detail on the project page <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a lengthy, text-heavy medical standard documents and rewrote them to be concise and unambiguous for all healthcare professionals who need to follow the standard. Joining the project as a newcomer to the medical field proved to be a major advantage in terms of making the standard easier to understand, because to simplify it, I had to fully understand it myself first.<\/p><p>During the first few months, the standard's content was constantly evolving. Consequently, I chose not to test the text through a prototype right away, opting instead for Google Docs. Because healthcare workers operate in a fast-paced environment, user testing needed to happen in a familiar, convenient environment accessible to all age groups. After every major structural or phrasing update, the document was redistributed via email, allowing stakeholders to leave inline comments.<\/p><p>To define each stakeholder's role along the lung cancer care pathway, I attended ongoing meetings with nurses, pulmonologists, general practitioners (GPs), and physical therapists. I also had the opportunity to observe a multidisciplinary team meeting, ensuring the medical board section of the standard was documented as clearly as no agreed-upon index event to track and analyse the patient journey. Therefore, it was important to highlight the designated diagnostic code throughout the whole webpage.<\/p><p>To clarify when a cancer suspicion diagnosis should be issued, I prototyped an interactive symptom checklist. The list allows users to check off patient symptoms and alerts the doctor when enough criteria are met to confirm a suspicion of cancer.<\/p><p>The checklist does not save data and functions interactively only on the standard's web page, as its purpose is to help doctors understand and follow the standard rather than serve as a diagnostic tool or a public \"diagnosis Projekti k\u00e4igus s\u00f5nastasin lihtsamaks ja t\u00f5lkisin mitmeid raviteekonna standardiga seotud tekste, vormistasin standardi \u00fcmber veebilehe protot\u00fc\u00fcbiks ning l\u00f5in standardi sammudest eri sihtgruppidele jooniseid. Minu roll Uurimus \u2013 taustauurimus, v\u00e4lkintervjuud, vaatlusUX ja UIUX-kirjutamineInfodisain Etapp Probleem Projektile eelnes Tehnopoli kopsuv\u00e4hi raviteekonna kaardistamise projekt (2023\u20132024), mille k\u00e4igus uuriti kopsuv\u00e4hi raviteekondi kolmes Eesti haiglas (ITK, PERH, T\u00dcK). Projekti raames kaardistati raviteekonna kaalukamad arengusuunad. L\u00e4htudes seatud arengusuundadest ning t\u00e4iendavast andmeanal\u00fc\u00fcsist, t\u00f6\u00f6tati Tartu \u00dclikooli Kliinikumis v\u00e4lja kopsuv\u00e4hi kiire, sujuv ja inimkeskne raviteekond s\u00fcmptomitega patsiendi sisenemisest tervishoius\u00fcsteemi kuni kasvajavastase ravi alguseni.\u00a0 Loodud raviteekonna standardi eesm\u00e4rgiks on lahendada j\u00e4rgnevad probleemid: \u00a0Kopsuv\u00e4hi s\u00fcmptomid olid raskesti defineeritavad. Raviteekonna alguses olid viivitused: 44% patsientidest ei j\u00f5udnud v\u00e4hikahtluse korral v\u00e4hikeskusesse 14 p\u00e4eva jooksul ja 41% patsientidel ei kinnitu diagnoos 21 p\u00e4evaga. Lisaks puutusid patsiendid kokku keskmiselt kolme erineva arstiga ning liikusid selle k\u00e4igus erinevates tervishoiuasutustes. Liigsed \u201e\u00fcleandmised\u201d spetsialistilt spetsialistile ja hoonest hoonesse p\u00f5hjustasid viivitusi ravi alustamisel ning ebavajalikku lisastressi patsiendi jaoks niigi keerulisel ajal. Raviteekonna algus oli ebam\u00e4\u00e4rane, sest v\u00e4hikahtluse korral kasutati erinevaid diagnoosikoode v\u00f5i j\u00e4eti v\u00e4hikahtluse diagnoos m\u00e4\u00e4ramata. Suhtlus tervishoiut\u00f6\u00f6tajate ja patsiendi vahel oli puudulik. V\u00e4hikahtlust, diagnoosi ega prognoosi ei edastatud patsiendikeskselt ning selgelt. Diagnoosimise ja ravi ooteajad olid pikad ja segased, kusjuures s\u00fcsteem ei pakkunud patsiendile vajalikku tuge (sellest probleemist t\u00e4psemalt lehek\u00fcljel Tartu \u00dclikooli Kliinikumi kodulehe uuendused patsientidele). Protsessist t\u00e4psemalt Standardi v\u00e4ljat\u00f6\u00f6tamine Olin standardi v\u00e4ljat\u00f6\u00f6tamise protsessis kaasas peamiselt UX-kirjutajana: minu k\u00e4tte j\u00f5udsid pikad tiheda tekstiga ravistandardi dokumendid, mida mina konkreetseks ning k\u00f5igile standardit j\u00e4rgivatele tervishoiut\u00f6\u00f6tajatele \u00fcheselt m\u00f5istetavaks \u00fcmber s\u00f5nastasin. Teksti lihtsustamisel oli palju abi sellest, et mina liitusin projektiga v\u00e4ljastpoolt meditsiinivaldkonda ning pidin samuti kogu standardi tekstist aru saama. Esimeste kuude jooksul oli standardi sisu veel pidevas muutumises, mist\u00f5ttu ei alustanud ma standardi teksti testimist protot\u00fc\u00fcbiga, vaid Google Docsi dokumendi vormis. Et selgitada v\u00e4lja, milline on iga osapoole roll kopsuv\u00e4hi raviteekonnal, osalesin jooksvalt koosolekutel \u00f5dede, pulmonoloogide, perearstide ja f\u00fcsioterapeutidega. Lisaks sain v\u00f5imaluse vaadelda konsiiliumit, et teada, kuidas ka seda standardi osa v\u00f5imalikult selgelt vormistada. Veebilehe vajalikkus Standardi l\u00f5ppsihtkohaks oli Tartu \u00dclikooli Kliinikumi veebileht, et igal raviteekonnas osaleval meditsiinit\u00f6\u00f6tajal oleks v\u00f5imalik standardit igal hetkel lugeda. Raviteekonna standardiseerimine ning standardi veebileht on olulised, et patsiendiga tegelevate spetsialistide rollid ei kattuks ning et \u00fchtegi vajalikku sammu ei j\u00e4etaks vahele. Lahendus Disainisin T\u00dc Kliinikumile kopsuv\u00e4hi raviteekonna standardi veebilehek\u00fclje, kus on igale patsiendiga kokku puutuvale spetsialistile samm-sammult lahti selgitatud, milles tema roll seisneb. T\u00e4iendavalt t\u00f5lkisin ja s\u00f5nastasin lihtsamaks halbade uudiste teatamise protokolli SPIKES, mille rakendamise eesm\u00e4rgiks on parandada meditsiinit\u00f6\u00f6taja ja patsiendi vahelist suhtlust. Ka SPIKES sai vormistatud veebilehek\u00fcljeks. Protot\u00fc\u00fcpe luues tuginesin T\u00dc Kliinikumi v\u00e4ljakujunenud disainikeelele ning uuendasin kasutajaliidest vaid ligip\u00e4\u00e4setavuse eesm\u00e4rkidel. Kopsuv\u00e4hi raviteekonna standardi veebilehek\u00fclg on jaotatud avatavatesse sektsioonidesse raviteekonnal osalevate sihtgruppide j\u00e4rgi. Sisu on vormistatud akordionina selleks, et igal kasutajal oleks v\u00f5imalik vajadusel enda rolli kohta v\u00f5imalikult kiiresti infot leida. Samas on kogu sisu samal lehel selleks, et iga spetsialist saaks lugeda ka enda kolleegide rollide kohta ning oskaks j\u00e4rgnevaid raviteekonna samme patsiendile selgitada. Koondasin iga rolli sektsioonis info ka joonisele, et kogu protsess eri osapoolte jaoks lihtsamini hoomatavaks muuta. K\u00f5ik, kes k\u00e4esolevast aastast kopsuv\u00e4hi raviteekonna standardit j\u00e4rgivad, on k\u00fcll oma ala kogenud professionaalid, kuid selline standard on siiski t\u00e4iesti uus ning vajab kohanemist. Minu eesm\u00e4rgiks oli muuta standardi esialgne lugemine ning \u00f5ppimine sihtgrupi jaoks v\u00f5imalikult lihtsaks. Joonistel on oluliselt esile toodud standardis m\u00e4\u00e4ratud raviteekonna ajalised kriteeriumid, mis kogu protsessi kulgu juhivad. Seni kasutati v\u00e4hikahtluse korral erinevaid diagnoosikoode ning puudus konkreetne kokkulepitud indekss\u00fcndmus, mille kaudu k\u00f5igi v\u00e4hikahtluse diagnoosiga patsientide raviteekonda j\u00e4lgida ja anal\u00fc\u00fcsida. Seet\u00f5ttu oli oluline standardis m\u00e4\u00e4ratud v\u00e4hikahtluse diagnoosikoodi standardi veebilehek\u00fcljel l\u00e4bivalt r\u00f5hutada. Selleks, et oleks selge, millisel juhul v\u00e4hikahtluse diagnoos v\u00e4lja panna, protot\u00fc\u00fcpisin interaktiivse s\u00fcmptomite nimekirja. Nimekiri v\u00f5imaldab kasutajal patsiendi s\u00fcmptomeid m\u00e4rkida ning annab arstile m\u00e4rku, kui s\u00fcmptomeid on piisavalt, et v\u00e4hikahtlus kinnitada.
